Who can buy a gecko from Draconia Cresteds?
Everyone can buy geckos from Draconia Cresteds. Belgian and Dutch buyers can meet me at several reptile fairs like Terraria in Ghent, Naturaria in Antwerp or Terraria in Houten. Other buyers can meet me at Terraristika in Hamm, if first properly discussed through E-mail or Facebook. If you are interested in a gecko, please contact me at draconia.cresteds@gmail.com
What is the price of a gecko?
The price differs per gecko. It depends on what morph it has, which colors, which traits and what gender it has. Full pinstripes will cost more than a gecko that does not have any pinstriping for example. Also highly patterned ones will cost more han a buckskin. Females cost more as they are able to produce eggs and males do not. Prices obviously cannot be given before a gecko is born. There is no fixed price for a morph or color.
Note: You can put a gecko ‘on hold’ if you are interested. If you actually want to buy a gecko, you can make a reservation, which will cost you a part of the price for that gecko.
Is there a guarantee?
I give a 12 hour guarantee for European buyers and a 48 hour guarantee for others. All animals are 100 % healthy at point of trade. I cannot be responsible for any accidents at your home or for any illnesses the gecko gets at your place. If you notice anything wrong with the gecko, please send an E-mail within 12 (Europeans) or 48 (non-Eu) hours in which you describe what the complaint or problem is. I am not responsible for any lost tails after the sale.
I want a male / female, can I choose?
All available geckos are unsexed, unless differently indicated. I will hold some geckos back for a while to see how their colors develop. If I sell those later on, their gender can be known and thus shown on the available picture. Pictures of available geckos will have a gender label. This can either be unsexed, female or male.
Buying and choosing at color.
Crested geckos change color as they grow older. It is mostly not clear how a little gecko will look like as an adult. A red gecko is mostly brown first, to give an example. How a gecko will look like as an adult is sometimes clear by watching the parents, but it is not always a guarantee. These geckos are polymorphic, so their genes are pretty much unpredictable. Colors depend on the gecko its family tree. It is always a surprise what will happen when you pair two different colored cresteds. Pairing two cresteds of the same color will give more certainty about the little ones their color, but not 100 % certainty. Also, they have two different color states. Fired down is when the gecko has more pale colors, a bit boring or vague. This mostly occurs when the gecko Is sleeping or when it is calm. Fired up is when the colors are at their best and thus when they are the most beautiful. Mostly they are darker colored. This happens when the gecko is awake in the evening or night and when it is hunting after crickets or when you just sprayed water. Not all cresteds fire up in the evening, my male Shay is one of he odd ones that love to fire up when they are asleep, especially when the sun hits the window near the terrarium. It is just what the gecko likes.
My gecko is not eating, now what?
Reptiles are mostly stressed when they are placed in a new environment. Your home and its terrarium are all new for the gecko and it will probably stress him/her. Also the trip itself from my home to yours in a small box is not stress-free. This will sometimes cause your new gecko to refuse to eat and/or sit in the same place for some days or so. Do not worry about this, it is normal. It will get used to the new place and eating will be ok after some time as reptiles will not starve themselves. You will not notice that it eats from its bowl, but you should look for feces. A golden rule is: if they are pooping, they are eating.
Can I feed my gecko everything?
No, crested geckos should mainly eat Crested Gecko Diet or simply CGD, which is a powder specially produced for them by Allen Repashy. CGD contains everything they need in the right proportions and is easy to prepare, just add water to make a milkshake-like substance and it is ready to serve. You can feed them additional crickets as they stimulate growth and also mashed soft fruit like banana, mango or peach. Do not feed them babyfood as it is pure sugar and it only has fruit flavor and no nutritional value for your
gecko. They like it, but it is not healthy at all. Also don’t feed them citrus fruits as it can cause problems to break down calcium. They would not eat citrus fruits anyway. Also I do not recommend mealworms for cresteds as they are simply too big and their shell is too hard for them. They can have problems digesting it. MBD
Metabolic Bone Disease or MBD is a bone disease caused by a lack of calcium and vitamins. The bones start to deform and the gecko becomes unable to move properly or sometimes even to eat. In an early stage you can detect MBD by a wavy or zigzag form of the tail. It becomes wavy and sometimes the gecko shivers or start towalk in circles. In worst case, the gecko its bones ultimately grown in strange formations and the gecko dies. It is extremely important to feed your animal the proper food with the right amount of calcium and vitamins. As I said before, it is best to mainly feed CGD and additional dusted crickets to keep your crested gecko healthy.
MBD cannot be undone and geckos who suffer from it are unable and unfit to breed.

FTS
Floppy Tail Syndrome or FTS is not a disease, but an effect caused by a lack of climbing possibilities. When a gecko does not have enough vines, plants, hides, branches to climb and sit on, it will just hang against the glass, many times upside down. This will make the tail to start bending, resulting in a so-called floppy tail. The base of the tail, near the pelvis, will develop a slight ‘pit’and the tail itself near the base will be bended upwards a bit. FTS does not harm the gecko its overall health, but it is sometimes better to remove the tail when FTS occurs to prevent the pelvis from bending as well and in worst case, the whole spine. To prevent this, make sure you give your gecko plenty of climbing possibilities.
Tail loss
Crested geckos their tails can be dropped when they feel threatened or when they are very stressed. Unlike other geckos, cresteds their tail will not grow back. If your gecko lost its tail, do not panic. Leave it be and the wound will heal in some days, leaving you a frogbutt gecko. There are no crested geckos with a tail in the wild as they use it as a defense mechanism against predators.
